Artist Development Workshop #1: HEIDI BASCH-HAROD
For our first workshop, we spoke with Heidi Basch-Harod who is the Executive Director of Women’s Voices Now (WVN), a non-profit organization that uses film to advance girls’ and women’s rights globally. After discussing the power of film as a means of advocacy as well as hearing advice on how to get started in advocacy, students walked away with opportunities to get involved in and an action plan to make change!

Artist Development Workshop #2: SARAH MOSHMAN
In our second workshop, we spoke with Sarah Moshman, an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker and TEDx speaker whose work has been featured on PBS, Hulu, CNN, and Netflix. After discussing her journey into the film industry, we spoke about filmmaking techniques and preferences, how to get started in making films, and what makes storytelling an incredibly powerful tool in creating change.

Artist Development Workshop #3: CAITLIN LAINOFF
This workshop, Candid met with Create CA’s Senior Manager of Youth Engagement, Caitlin Lainoff. After hearing abut her journey through arts education and arts education policy, we learned about how to build advocacy campaigns, what it takes to mobilize communities, and what it means to be an advocate.
